It looks like the Yoga Journal Conference in San Francisco is becoming an annual event. This is the first time there will be back-to-back SF conferences in 2004 and 2005. I hope the trend continues.
The slate of teachers for the conference is quite impressive. If you decide to attend this conference, I recommend registering online. When you register online, you get to choose sessions knowing which ones are full and which ones are still available. If you mail in the registration, you are asked to choose three options for each session without knowing for certain which option you will actually be signed up for until you receive your registration confirmation in the mail.
Regardless of how you sign up, I do recommend registering early. The most popular classes typically fill up fast. I'm already registered and confirmed for classes with Rodney Yee, Sarah Powers, Rod Stryker, Desiree Rumbaugh, and Aadil Palkhivala.
Financially, I realize this conference is not cheap. However, there is a $250 option for just one day rather than $390 for both days of the main conference. There are also a limited number of work exchange volunteer opportunities. Work exchange volunteers do not register for classes, but will be able to participate in classes on a space-available basis when not fulfilling their assigned duties. Chakra-Based Sunrise Vinyasa Yoga Series

Starts 8/30/04 at Yoga Flow Castro
97 Collingwood @ 18th St.
San Francisco, CA 94114
http://www.jamielindsay.com/
jamie@jamielindsay.com
415.948.8611
drop-in rate: $13 (many discount cards available,
as well as student/neighborhood discounts)
New Seven-Week Series starts 8/30/04, of intense Vinyasa Flow instructed by Jamie Lindsay, with sequencing inspired by Kundalini Tantra practice, using the alignment principles of Iyengar, and the integration of breath and movement and internal energetics of Ashtanga Vinyasa. Each week we will be building a sequence focusing specifically on opening one of the chakras, and each day during the week will have a somewhat different focus within the context of the given energy center. Though the course will be presented as a series, and each class will build on what has come before, drop-in students are still quite welcome. Please bring your sense of humor.

Sanskrit Study Group
I just completed a wonderful five week class on the Sanskrit language. If you would like to be able to read the Sanskrit names for the poses *and* pronounce them in a manner true to the original Sanskrit, this is the class for you. The current class has ended, but, I'm sure that Connie Habash will be teaching it again in the future.
Four of the class participants (myself included) have decided to form a Sanskrit study group that will have periodic face-to-face meetings to practice what we have learned already and to continue our studies of the Sanskrit language. If you have learned the basics of reading and pronouncing Sanskrit, you are welcome to join us. You can contact me to learn how to join our study group mailing list.
