Yoga Community Bands Together

... for Tsunami Relief

I just heard about this. I have no direct connection to this endeavor, but, it sounds like a good idea. If you like the yellow wrist bands inspired by Lance Armstrong, I think you will like these orange wrist bands too. According to the two yoginis that are behind this:

"Just like a Tsunami, yoga has been a tremendous force in our lives. When we're around others who have been deeply affected by yoga, it makes us want to be better people. The yoga community brings out the best in us. Even though we want to, we can't go to help the people in need. But we can send a gift. And we can give our gifts in a way that shows we're grateful for the many gifts that have come our way through yoga and the vibrant yoga community."

When you buy a $2.99 wristband, they will contribute $1 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, for the purpose of aiding Asian Tsunami victims. You will find all the details here.

SF Yoga Conference Update

While the New Year is a time to celebrate, the recent earthquake and tsunami in South Asia has had a profound effect on the yoga community around the world. As a memoriam to tsunami victims, they are opening Sally Kempton's closing meditation at the upcoming San Francisco Conference to the public, free of charge. They will also be accepting donations at the conference which will go directly to the American Red Cross's disaster relief efforts.

Even if you're not attending the San Francisco conference, tickets are available for Kirtan with Jai Uttal and Yoga Trance Dance with Shiva Rea on Saturday, January 15, 2005, for $15.

Long Overdue Site Update

I'm taking a Yoga sabbatical from my day job during the month of January. This is finally allowing me the time to update the other portions of this site that had lots of stale content. I apologize for that. I've just updated the information in the Centers section with respect to the South Bay area. I'll be updating the Teachers section with respect to the South Bay area next.
